The People, The Land, and the Future of Israel - Darrell L. Brock and Mitch Glaser.
Israel and the Jewish People in the Plan of God
In October 2013 a group of pastors, theologians and Biblical scholars from the U.S. and Canada gathered together at the historic Calvary Baptist Church in New York where our late PWMI Vice President Dr Stephen Olford was pastor for many years. The object of the conference was to discuss and consider 'The People, the Land, and the Future of Israel.' A number of papers on the subject were delivered and this book brings together the essence of the teaching of that conference.
In these papers the error of Replacement Theology or Supercessionism is firmly dealt with in a scholarly way and Israel's position in the plan of God is clearly reaffirmed.
The following comments from Darrell Brock of Dallas Theological Seminary sum up the book well:
'What does the Bible teach about the role of the Jewish people and the nation of Israel today? Will there ever be peace for Israel and her neighbours? How can believers in Jesus be part of God's peace process in the Middle East? The contributors answer these questions and many more showing God's unfolding plan for Israel.'
Other personnel connected with Dallas and involved in the conference include Robert Chisholm and Eugene Merrill. Also involved was Michael Vlach of Masters Seminary and Joel Rosenberg who writes the forward to the book, along with with a number of eminent scholars.
One chapter I found particularly interesting involves the results of a survey taken across seventy seminaries and Bible schools in the USA on the subject of Israel. Several questions like: Have you observed a change in attitude to Israel among your faculty members in the last 10 years? Does your seminary have a position on the future of ethnic Israel and if so does this view refer to the Jewish people of today or a regathered nation in the future? Would you say that the present Modern State of Israel has any Biblical, political or ethnic claim to the Land of Israel? Does your seminary reflect the current Arab-Israeli conflict in its courses? The answers to these and several other related questions is most interesting, if not predictable.
This book is 350 pages is a comprehensive treatment of the whole subject of Israel in the purposes of God and is well recommended to those who have a love of prophecy and the Jewish people.
